The Curious Incident Of the Dog in the Nighttime, An American in Paris, The King and I, You Can’t Take It With You and Chita Rivera among Drama League Award Winners

The winners of the 81st Annual Drama League Awards were announced on Friday May 15 in New York. Hosted by Steven Boyer from Hand To God, the event took place at the Marriott Marquis Times Square.

The Distinguished Performance Award can only be won once in an actor’s career.  This year’s award was presented by last year’s recipient, Neil Patrick Harris. For her remarkable performance in The Visit, this year’s winner was Chita Rivera.

The 2015 recipients for Distinguished Contributions and Achievements in the Theatre include Tony®, Academy®, Golden Globe Award-winner Joel Grey received the Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theatre Award in recognition of his contribution to the musical theatre; WNET: Neal Shapiro and David Horn received the Unique Contribution to the Theatre Award for their vital work of bringing New York productions to television viewers across America; and Tony®, Drama Desk and BAFTA Award-winner Stephen Daldry received The Founders Award for Excellence in Directing.

Lia has appeared in the films Wolf, New Jack City, A Kiss Before Dying, King of New York, Big Trouble in Little China, The Last Dragon and Taxman. She has guest starred on “One Life to Live,” “As the World Turns,” and “New York Undercover.” Lia starred as Carole Barbara in Lorey Hayes’ Power Play at the National Black Theatre Festival in Winston-Salem, N.C., with Pauletta Pearson Washington and Roscoe Orman. She is profiled in Jade Magazine.
