Oumou Sangare
“Oumou Sangare is one of the most talented artists I’ve worked with in my entire career. This is the perfect time to work with her and fellow Malian musicians. I’m honored to participate in this tour,” said Calhoun.
Over the course of the past two years, Calhoun has visited Mali to study with Dogon drummers and other master musicians. He is also featured playing drums and percussion on Oumou’s critically acclaimed new CD “Seya”.
Oumou Sangare and Asa, featuring Will Calhoun on drums and percussion, perform today in a free concert at Central Park’s Summerstage, Rumsey Playfield at 3pm.
July 5, 2009
At 3 p.m., Central Park SummerStage, Rumsey Playfield, midpark at 70th Street, (212) 360-2777, summerstage.org; free.
