Lea Salonga
The Ayala Foundation USA announces that Tony Award Winner Lea Salonga will appear in a special performance for the victims of Typhoon “Ondoy” to be held at The Philippine Center’s Kalayaan Hall on Monday, October 12th @ 7pm. The Philippine Center is located at 556 Fifth Avenue (btwn. 45th and 46th Sts.) in New York.
The typhoon, which resulted to the country’s worst flooding disaster in over 40 years, has displaced over 450,000 people and left 380,000 living in makeshift shelters. There are 246 known to have died in severe flooding caused by the typhoon which struck on Saturday, September 26th.
Victor Lirio, who is co-producing the event with Ayala Foundation USA, said in a joint statement with Lea Salonga: “This was a very quick planning decision over a cell phone conversation last night. Lea will be in town for a brief period of time. She altered her plans to do this. Both Lea and I feel that we have a responsibility to help our kababayans who are suffering and in dire need of relief and assistance. We have to put in our share, no matter how small. Every little bit counts, right?” He added: “We are grateful to the Ayala Foundation for providing the system and for the support of the Philippine Consulate General to make this happen.”

Lia Chang is an actor, performance and fine art botanical photographer, and a multimedia journalist. A former syndicated arts and entertainment columnist for KYODO News, Lia is the New York Bureau Chief for AsianConnections.com. She has been documenting her colleagues and contemporaries in the arts, fashion and journalism since making her stage debut as Liat in the National Tour of South Pacific, with Robert Goulet and Barbara Eden. She is currently working on several botanical portrait commissions for the New York City Health and Hospital Corporation Art Collection and on a book of portraits of her favorite Asian American men in the arts and space.
