Meet New York scarf and jewelry designer Bernie Rohe of Bernie of New York, at the New York International Bridal Week, held October 13-15, 2012 at Pier 94, 711 12th Ave. (55th Street and the West Side Highway) in New York.

As chief designer and president of Bernie of New York, Bernie Rohe’s trademarks in scarf design are piping and her exquisite taste in pattern and color combinations. Bernie of New York’s offerings include her specialty fabric iridescent silk, silk chiffon and charmeuse, shawls of brocade and taffeta, organza and velvet, as well as wraps of cashmere and furs. Rohe’s design commissions include signature scarves and men’s ties for Clark Atlanta University, Jackson State University and Central Michigan University. She was recognized by Susan C. Schwab, the United States Trade Representative for President Bush, “for creating beautiful scarves, and for the value of imports and the access to the best imputs the world has to offer.” Rohe’s creations are “Made in USA”.

The Bernie of New York collection also includes Bridal Accessories – a elegant selection of tiaras, hair accessories, and veils; and exquisite jewelry featuring unique creations of Swarovski crystal, gold, silver, pearls and semi-precious stones. Her designs have appeared in Bride & Groom magazine and the Weddingpages. Rohe has been profiled in Essence magazine, Black Enterprise and on the TV Show “B. Smith with Style”.

Bernie of New York designs are carried in all Nordstrom Stores, Lord & Taylor, and major Specialty Boutiques in the country, i.e. Terry Costa, TX; Maison Weiss, MS; Lake Forest Shop, IL; Nolte’s, Kansas City; Juliana’s, NY; and Molly’s of Denver. The daily operations of the company are a joint venture between Rohe and her husband Uli Rohe.

About Bernie Rohe of Bernie of New York
Ms. Rohe began her life in fashion in 1975 as the top model and muse for Italian designer Roberto Cavalli and Liz Claiborne. She credits her sense of style to her years of working and traveling to Europe with Cavalli, who was pioneering the technique of printed and embossed leather and suede.

“I was fascinated with his truly unique mixing of patterns and colors and that really got me focused on combining and mixing vibrant colors for my scarves,” says Rohe.

In September 1991, she went to Europe and returned with a collection of exquisite patterns and fabrics. With the designs for her scarves in mind she opened her own showroom – Bernie of New York – on Seventh Avenue. Although the accessory market is noted for being on Fifth Avenue, Rohe’s experience of 15 years in the fashion industry prompted her to be where the action was….and is. Her instincts and her keen sense of trends paid off.

The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. Names Brendan L. Hoffman President and Chief Executive Officer

(press release) The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. today announced the appointment of Brendan L. Hoffman, 43, to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company, effective February 7, 2012. He will also be elected to the Board of Directors (the “Board”). Mr. Hoffman replaces President and Chief Executive Officer Bud Bergren, who is a current member of the Board of Directors and who will transition to the role of the Chairman of the Board of the Company. Upon Mr. Bergren’s transition to Chairman of the Board, Tim Grumbacher, currently serving as Executive Chairman of the Board, will remain a Director of the Company.

Mr. Hoffman was the Chief Executive Officer and President of Lord & Taylor L.L.C. since October 2008. Prior to this, he served six years as President and Chief Executive Officer of Neiman Marcus Direct, a subsidiary of The Neiman Marcus Group Inc., where he oversaw the growth of neimanmarcus.com and the launch and growth of bergdorfgoodman.com. Mr. Hoffman also served as Vice President of Last Call Clearance Division at Neiman Marcus from August 2000 to December 2002 and as a Divisional Merchandise Manager of Bergdorf Goodman Inc. from October 1998 to August 2000.

Mr. Grumbacher stated, “We are excited to have an executive with Brendan’s skill and background assuming the role of President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company. He comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience in the retail industry, which we believe will be very beneficial in driving profitable growth from the strategic initiatives we began piloting in the fall of fiscal 2011. We look forward to Brendan joining our team and working with him to drive the future success of our Company.”

Mr. Grumbacher continued, “The Board of Directors and I would personally like to thank Bud and recognize his many accomplishments and dedicated service over the past seven years. We are very fortunate to have the continued counsel and support of Bud as he transitions into his new role as Chairman of the Board.”

Mr. Hoffman commented, “I have great confidence in Bon-Ton’s future and look forward to working closely with management and the Board in executing a successful strategic plan and increasing shareholder value. I am excited to lead the Bon-Ton team as it embarks on a new phase of growth.”

On Saturday, December 17, 2011, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Adrienne Maloof spent the afternoon in the shoe department of the Lord & Taylor Fifth Ave Flagship store in New York, meeting and greeting fans, signing autographs and introducing her latest venture as shoe designer with her Adrienne Maloof by Charles Jourdan Shoe Collection. The line to meet her snaked around the 2nd floor, and many of the women in the store were thrilled to have her sign their newly purchased styles.

Maloof is an American businesswoman, philanthropist, television personality and co-owner of the various business holdings of Maloof Companies, which include the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada; the Sacramento Kings, the Sacramento Monarchs, Maloof Productions, Maloof Music and the annual Maloof Money Cup skateboarding event. On Monday, November 14, 2011, the Lord & Taylor Fifth Avenue Flagship store in New York unveiled the 2011 Lord & Taylor Fifth Avenue Christmas Windows.

This year, the windows were inspired by children’s drawings of “What is Christmas Made of?” and an illustration by Carl Wilson from 1941 that shows tiny illustrations and asks “What is Christmas Made of?” Lord & Taylor asked children from Women In Need shelters and local schools to draw what they believe Christmas is made of. The mechanical holiday windows were inspired by their art and feature 125 of the original drawings.

The celebration began with performances by the Young People’s Chorus of New York City™ who were joined by Kathie Lee Gifford, co- host of the fourth hour of NBC’s Today Show for one number.

Prior to the unveiling, the Young People’s Chorus of NYC performed “What is Christmas Made Of” a holiday song composed exclusively for Lord & Taylor. Simultaneously, Lord & Taylor stores throughout the chain hosted local student choral groups to perform the special song.

Lia Chang is an actor, performance and fine art botanical photographer, and an award-winning multimedia journalist.
As a photographer and videographer, Lia collaborates with artists, organizations and companies in establishing their documentary photo archive and social media presence. She has been documenting her colleagues and contemporaries in the arts, fashion and journalism since making her stage debut as Liat in the National Tour of South Pacific, with Robert Goulet and Barbara Eden. Lia currently plays Nurse Lia on “One Life to Live”. She has appeared in Wolf, New Jack City, A Kiss Before Dying, King of New York, Big Trouble in Little China, The Last Dragon, Taxman and “New York Undercover”.

Selections of Lia’s archive of Asian Pacific Americans in the arts, fashion, journalism, politics and space are now in the newly created LIA CHANG THEATER PHOTOGRAPHY PORTFOLIO in the ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN PERFORMING ARTS COLLECTION housed in the Library of Congress Asian Division’s Asian American Pacific Islander Collection.
