Ensemble Studio Theatre’s GOING TO THE RIVER celebrates its 10th Anniversary by presenting THE RIVER CROSSES RIVERS: A festival of short one-act plays by women playwrights of color. Founded in 1999 at the Ensemble Studio Theatre (EST) by the late Curt Dempster and Elizabeth Van Dyke, producing artistic director, GOING TO THE RIVER has nurtured, developed and produced the work of African-American women playwrights.
This year’s festival will run September 10 – 27 on EST’s main-stage. A summer celebration of playwrights France-Luce Benson , Melody Cooper, Kara Lee Corthron, Kia Corthron, Naveen Bahar Choudhury, Ruby Dee, N.N.Ewing, J.e. Franklin, P.J. Gibson, Mrinalini Kamath, Lynn Nottage, Desi Moreno-Penson, Natalia Naman, and Bridgette Wimberly will be held at B. Smith’s, 320 W. 46th St in New York on Monday, August 10, from 6pm-9pm.
