On February 26 and 27, Duke performances presents Charles Tolliver, Jason Moran, Stanley Cowell, Rufus Reid, Gene Jackson and their orchestras in Thelonious Monk at Town Hall: The 50th Anniversary Celebration, two extraordinary concerts honoring the legendary 1959 Town Hall concert in which Juilliard-based arranger / composer Hall Overton collaborated with Thelonious Monk. Both arranging sessions and rehearsals were held in Overton’s loft studio at 821 Sixth Avenue, NYC. These sessions and rehearsals were photographed and recorded on reel-to-reel audiotapes by legendary photographer W. Eugene Smith, who lived and worked in the same building.
